5 Important Tips to Assist You Prepare for a Long Flight

Is it your first time taking a long flight? If so, long haul flights can be a nightmare without proper preparation. From seating next to a stranger for hours to having limited movements, the flight can drain your energy levels while putting your patience to test. However, with proper planning and added comforts, the trip can be comfortable and enjoyable. Below are some few tips to assist you plan for a long haul flight.

1. Locate Comfortable Clothes to Wear

Depending on your wardrobe and lifestyle, look for an outfit that you'll be comfortable to wear for hours. The outfit should allow you to maneuver and stretch easily while on the aircraft. Something loose and warm is advisable as the flight air conditioning system is usually too powerful, giving a chilly atmosphere in the plane. Do you have jewelries and accessories? There would be no need to wear them as they'll just tip off the alarms and cause you delays while checking in.

2. Plan for your Own Entertainment

Although all flights provide an array of entertainment options, it's advisable to bring your own entertainment to avoid inconveniences.  The aircraft may have movies and songs that don't suite your taste or the headphones provided may not match the standards you expected. Therefore, carry a book or a tab with your own movies and songs to entertain you through the flight. 

3. Reserve your Preferred Seat Early

If you want to have the perfect seat, always reserve it early so that you have options to choose from. Choosing a seat takes experience. For example, seats on the exit rows tend to have more leg space and special provisions for the babies are usually on the front part of the plane. Also, if you'd prefer sleeping through the flight, opt for the window seat, as it offers minimum interruptions.  Consider all your needs before reserving your seat.

4. Arrive and Check-in Early

By arriving and checking in your luggage early, you'll be able to find time to locate your departure gate, locate a good waiting seat, stock up your snacks and treats. Airport transportation will likely be cheaper if you travel early in advance using public transport. However, when late, never opt for public transport. Generally, arriving early gives you peace of mind and minimizes the chances of forgetting anything.

5. Sleeping

Having a decent sleep during a flight assists you to reach your destination a bit energetic and with little effect from the air lag. Though the airline will provide you with a pillow and light blanket for overnight flights, it's advisable to strap your neck pillow on the side of your luggage and a small blanket. They will go a long way to afford you the comfort you deserve.
